Our existence demands attention to ideas about Humanity and Nature that are worth exploring.
Drawing and Painting are my most important practices whether of the Figure, or of Nature as abstract or as semi-abstract forms.
The ‘Shroud Series’ was about veiling with paint or ink, yet by veiling I was uncovering. I have never seen a shroud used in real life, only in photojournalism. As artists work in their private studios the outside world seeps in; mayhem, destruction, and the resulting bodies. Most shrouds are white or dirtied white, but an idea developed of Mankind as 'paint forms expressed in a clay-like rosy color, in the sense that blood can become iron red, and the body goes back to clay’. These forms are created from organic shapes: Torsos, Rock Faces, Crevasses, Caves, Vessels, Heart, Lungs, and Wombs that express a human physicality that endures and evokes “Life.” The layering of paint on paint, of ink on ink both veils and exposes; most images are laid on painted or tinted paper.
Color evoking a physical element: Clay, Red Madder, Terracotta, Flesh, Vermilion, Porphyry, and Ox-Blood punched with Cyan, Purples, or Greens. Messing around with Creamy Whites made of lactation, tendon, and bone.
The sensuality of paint and drawing have a sensibility that offers a tribute to life and the mind.

‘Wrapped Mankind Series’
I started this series in 2021.
What was going to emerge in Humanity’s sense of itself?
Perhaps the questions are more interesting than the answers.
